Hi everyone.

 

I have just picked up my new tdi Ghia from the dealer and have a quick question about the cup holders. In the brochure it states that these have 'backlights' but whilst driving last night noticed there is no illumination at all on them. Does anyone else know if this is an actual feature or not?

 

I know it's quite a trivial matter but I'm just making a list of things to query. Ordered 2 child seats and only got one neck support and the rubber seal around both back doors was hanging off (noticed that top of doors weren't shut properly when I got home).

My 2003 Zetec model also claimed to have illumination lights for cupholders in the brochure. But when I finally got it, there were no lights. When I queried this with the dealer he was just as puzzled as I was. He did suggest that he would chase up with Ford but in the end I couldn't be bothered as I didn't consider it to be a significant point!

 

Not sure about the Ghia model - I thought it had all the trimmings!

Thanks JToh, I don't think I will bother Ford about it but the brochure does make the point that the Zetec/Ghia models have this feature above the LX. I'm also sure my friends Seat Alhambra does have the backlights!!!

 

Don't think I'll use the holders anyway as my last one kept spilling McD's Coke down the radio seizing up all the buttons.

From memory, I think we covered this before and the answer was that the brochure is wrong, the cup holders are no longer illuminated.

Ivor is right. I chased this up with ford when i changed from my 2002 zetec to 2003 ghia and lost the illumination - they confirmed they were no longer illuminated.

talk about going backwards, what the hell is up with them???

 

see, i know where the cup holders are, i see them every day, but passengers, in the dark wont know!

When I first got mine the front cup holders did not even open due to all the spilt coffee / coke. They took a considerable amount of cleaning / WD40 before they 'sprang' back to life (this was after the garage had 'cleaned' the car - twice!). Occasionally I use them for drinks but I use them mainly for my PDA mount.

i use mine loads, drink cans, water bottles, Mcdonalds Mc flurries, coke, coffee, tea.

That explains it - they must give you the rattle in lieu of the illumination so you can still find your drink in the dark. Both of mine rattle when they are used anyway :D

Wow, what a debate !! Certainly won't be using them to hold drinks but I do remember the wife once putting an extra large McD's coke on the ledge below the windscreen just before I pulled away sharply at the lights. That one took a while to clean up too.

 

deadpool2e the 150 is very nice, but test drove the 130 about 2 months ago and from memory I don' think the 150 is a huge performace improvement over this. But my last Galaxy was the 90bhp one so anything is going to be a marked improvement I think.

i wish they did a better range on the automatics, as, if you have an auto, you have to have the 115, not the 130 or 150 :o ;)

I've recently bought a 150 as well - moving from an Audi A4 TDi 130. I was initially disappointed with the performance, however now it has about 1500 miles on there has been a marked improvement.

 

I'm not sure if the ECU is deliberately down-tuned for the first so many miles but I am now very impressed with it. There is loads of mid-range grunt and of course the motor is very torquey.

 

I had a pop at a Skoda Octavia vRS (a wolf in sheeps clothing) on a motorway slip road a couple of days ago and whilst I couldn't beat him, he was most annoyed that I matched him in the 40-80mph range.

 

Fuel consumption is nowhere near my old A4 though - I used to be able to easily get 50mpg and push it towards 60mpg driving like a nun's granny, but now in the Galaxy I am pushing it to get 40mpg and about 43 if I really try - 36-38mpg is the sort of figure I see if I am making good progress. Whilst I know the A4 weighs less and cuts through the air easier, I had hoped for slightly better.

 

All in all though, the 150 is a nice motor if you don't want to compromise too much on performance.
